Fashion at the Dark Knight Premiere.

I absolutely cannot wait for the premiere of the Dark Knight in theaters though I also have a strong distaste for crowds, bad seats, and long wait times so I might well not see it in the first weekend. The AMC near Park Street is just too crowded for my tastes when its a major opening weekend. Jezebel and some other sites have pictures of the premiere, and I just wanted to highlight Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress, which I think is absolutely lovely. I like the flashes of color on black. Colorful floral motifs could so easily be overdone, but here its staid and elegant. Incidentally, I love Maggie Gyllenhaal as an actress and was ambivalent about Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, so even if its kind of weird to switch actresses for a major character from one movie to the next (when they really don’t look alike at all), I’m really excited for seeing her on screen.

Alas, not everyone at the premiere was dressed so well. I watch Law and Order SVU almost religiously and Mariska Hargitay, who plays Detective Olivia Benson, is gorgeous. Quick google-fu also shows that she definitely has a history of being very well-dressed for events. So I don’t know why she’s so awkwardly dressed for the Dark Knight premiere. the outfit isn’t as bad as many a red-carpet fashion snafu, but its just so far from being good. I don’t think an outfit like that would be flattering on many people at all, and there is just so much out there that’d be better. while still being reserved and in keeping with the more subdued and toned-down nature of this premiere.

Via Jezebel, where you can find higher resolution versions of these and a handful of other photos from the premiere.

True :] I love Maggie Gyllenhaal though her role in Dark Knight wasn’t too immense.

i still wish Katie Holmes had stayed on board as Rachel Dawes for the Dark Knight; it was like the time spent getting familiar with her character in Batman Begins was wasted…
