A Big Move.

A Couple Little Things.

Posted in miscellaneous, Uncategorized by bluewellesleyblue on November 5, 2008

Alas, with the time difference between the UK and the US and my own exhaustion thanks to days of not enough sleep for no reason, I’m probably going to turn in just as the polls close on the East Coast. I’m looking forward to hopefully good news in the morning, however. Here a couple little things on my mind, both fashion-related and not.

GOSSIP GIRL1. I knew Jenny’s dress from the most recent Gossip Girl episode was familiar! I haven’t been following that show by the way, in favor of Pushing Daisies, Criminal Minds, and Dexter, but I follow a lot of blogs that keep on top of Gossip Girl, so I have a vague idea of what’s going on. So it was H&M! For some reason, I was imagining that it might be Marc by Marc Jacobs or something like that because I just assume such things about the clothes shown on TV. Alas, more well-endowed girls like me cannot wear dresses like that. Believe me, I have tried.

2. Oh my gosh, Alexander McQueen for Target? That sounds like something I’ll want to keep my eye on.

3. Also, due to the indirect influence of By Teresa Wu and Miss Couturable, I’m trying my hand at Twitter. I don’t think I’ll keep on top of it, but well, when I’m procrastinating, I like to sign up for new things online! I really don’t think I quite understand how it’s supposed to be used and how to maximize its utility yet, but oh well, I’m trying. I’m definitely not as knowledgeable about blogging, publishing, social media, and all that sort of thing as those wonderful bloggers, but I live to learn.

Giant Sweatshirt Days.

Posted in miscellaneous by bluewellesleyblue on October 20, 2008

Clearly, I’ve been a little lazy with the blogging thing. Part of it is just that shopping is almost completely out of the question for now, except when it comes to hunting for gifts and souvenirs for people back home and maybe a little splurge for parent gifts. Rest assured, I’m still keeping on top of everyone else’s blog with my handy-dandy Google Reader!

The main reason why I haven’t felt like blogging – or doing much of anything else, useful or not – is that I’ve been having a long string of those giant sweatshirt and sweatpants days. It makes me long for my Victoria’s Secret Pink sweatpants and sweatshirt back home. Normally, I simply find myself questioning why I own those things at all. I pretty much never wear them outside of the dorm. Now that I’ve left all of my sweatpants, sweatshirts, and college logo hoodies back home in California, I find myself missing them a lot. I ended up buying a pair of H&M sweatpants here, but it’s been in my laundry hamper. It might not be long before I drag myself to Oxford Street again to hunt out a giant crew-neck sweatshirt or sweater, maybe from the men’s section.

Decisions, Decisions.

Posted in non-fashion by bluewellesleyblue on October 7, 2008

I’m trying to very slowly transition this blog to being a slightly more personal blog with a continuing emphasis on fashion. Besides the fact that I’ve been getting a little “fashion fatigue,” I have a near insatiable compulsion for talking about myself online. I’ve been blogging since Xanga was popular when I was in late middle school and early high school, and though I’ve switched blog providers and site names several times, I’ve more or less been blogging constantly since then.

Having a single-topic blog, I’m finding, is still very useful since I easily lose focus or fall into the trap of over-sharing. Though I’ve never been involved in real cyber-drama, it is a little awkward to realize that subtle, cryptic post on your current unrequited crush might well not be subtle enough. (True story from an embarrassingly¬† recent point in time, but embellished a little for dramatic effect since there were plenty of little things I was doing in real life that could just as easily have given the game away.)

This post is admittedly more than a little self-indulgent. I just wanted to give a little heads up.

I’ll Admit it, I’m Wimpy.

I’m feeling a little more under the weather now from getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I’m starting to really feel the unpleasant side effects from some of the medicine, and I’m not even taking the most hardcore painkiller anymore. I think I might also have dry socket, and if that’s the case I can probably look forward to being under the weather for a bit longer.

I’d been optimistic and hoping to make it to Berkeley to see one of my best friends and visit her for the weekend now that classes have begun there. (I always find it really interesting to see how different it is at different colleges.) Looks like I’m going to have to postpone my trip. Oh well, my recovery period does give me an excuse to eat lots of coffee ice cream, which is my favorite.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction Complete!

Posted in miscellaneous by bluewellesleyblue on August 27, 2008

My wisdom teeth surgery went very smoothly. They took out all four teeth under IV sedation and I was completely unconscious the whole time. The scariest part was just all the precautions they had to take – an oxygen tube for the nostrils, a blood pressure and EKG monitor, and I didn’t even really feel the IV needle going in. I’m also fortunate enough not to get any side effects from the Vicodin or the antibiotic, though the oral surgeon said something about including something for nausea in the IV bag. I might find that I actually am sensitive to the medication tomorrow, but I can phase out the painkiller pretty quickly, I think.

There shouldn’t be much slowdown to my rate of posts at all. Something as routine as wisdom teeth removal can’t get me down for long.

(Brief) Hiatus.

Posted in miscellaneous by bluewellesleyblue on August 7, 2008

This end of summer/moving back home and preparing for my semester abroad stuff is swamping me with tons of little things. I probably won’t be posting anything at all until the middle of next week at least. I’m dressing up for a poster presentation session right now and finding that my slacks are much too big and unattractive by definition, and my button-down doesn’t fit right either. I’m considering buying a new outfit at the Gap (the good thing about living and going to school in the ultimate yuppie town is that every more expensive thing you could really ever need is within walking distance) and returning it at the end of the afternoon. It’s kind of like a long trying-out session, you know. We also have an Ann Taylor, so there’s another business casual option.

I had dinner at my professor’s house, and therein lies the other good thing about living in a yuppie town. All the host gift options in the world – during the school year one is usually invited as part of a large class thing so there’s no need, but this was a little different – are also available and within walking distance (Body Shop, a cute little gourmet food gift and cheese shop, a Peet’s Coffee AND a Starbucks).

When I can take screenshots again – my print screen key is not working right – I will then show off my poster as well. It’s dead useless, but it is quite pretty.
